Introduction: Kumaraswami Kamaraj, popularly known as Kamarajar, was one of the greatest leaders and freedom fighters of India. • The Midday Meal Scheme: To prevent poor children from dropping out due to hunger, he introduced the revolutionary Midday Meal Scheme. This single initiative brought lakhs of rural children into classrooms and served as a model for the entire country.

• Free Uniforms: He introduced free school uniforms to remove caste and class distinctions among students.

Industrial and Agricultural Progress: Kamarajar's rule is often called the "Golden Age of Tamil Nadu." He focused heavily on the infrastructure of the state. He built major dams like Mettur, Lower Bhavani, and Mani Mutharu to boost agriculture. He also established major public sector industries, including the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in Trichy, and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Perambur.

An Icon of Simplicity: Despite holding the highest office in the state for nearly a decade, Kamarajar lived a life of absolute selflessness. He never used his power for personal gain or to enrich his family. When he passed away in 1975, he left behind no property, no bank balance, and only a few pairs of khadi clothes.

Conclusion: In recognition of his selfless service to the nation, the Government of India honored him posthumously with the highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in 1976. His birthday, July 15th, is celebrated across Tamil Nadu as "Kalvi Valarchi Naal" (Education Development Day). Kamarajar remains an eternal role model for leadership, integrity, and social justice.
